I did the 4.2.4 release for Meetup for BlackBerry 10, I didn’t receive the notification email that there was an update to the app. I think I even waited a day or so before doing the update myself, which was available when I went to myApps in BlackBerry App World. This wasn’t the first time that I did a release and the notification didn’t go through to the phone. In the last release, I got the review approval from BlackBerry and then the update notice within 12 hours. The approval came after 10 pm and by the next morning I had the update notice in my Hub
While this really isn’t too big of a deal and obviously the users are getting the update somehow, it does seem to make a difference as to how quickly the app update is downloaded. And, when everyone downloads the app update at the same time, I sort of get an idea of how many people are using my app. I know that some developers put hooks in their app to track that data, but it isn’t something I am doing with the Meetup app. The hooks usually gets account information or hardware information, which may or may not be something the user wants to share.
Anyway, just an observation I wanted to share.
